Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ - Curtin Flying Club
Below are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.
If you have any further queries, feel free to contact us.
How do I join?
You can join online by completing our membership application form. Approval usually takes a few business days. Make sure you familiarise yourself with our minimum requirements .
How do I book an aircraft?
Bookings are made via our App once your membership is approved.
Can I take an aircraft on a multi-day trip?
Yes, we welcome members using our aircraft for extended trips. We simply ask that you notify our Club Secretary beforehand to discuss your plans.
As a new member, do I need to undertake a check flight?
Each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis. Not all members are required to complete a check flight. Recent experience (within the last 90 days) operating a Garmin G1000-equipped Cessna 172 or Cessna 182 may mean a check flight is not necessary. All members, however, must complete a ground induction to familiarise themselves with the club’s procedures.
I don't have a CSU endorsement or experience in the Cessna 182. Can I still fly the Cessna 172?
Yes, as our Cessna 172 does not have a CSU, the (MPPC) endorsement is not required. If you would like to pursue a CSU endorsement, our in-house instructors can assist you on your journey toward obtaining the MPPC design feature endorsement to fly our Cessna 182.
Are away landings, including Rottnest, free?
Yes. Landings at Rottnest Island (YRTI) are completely free of charge. Other away landings are also free — with the exception of Jandakot (YPJT) and Perth Airport (YPPH) — subject to committee discretion.
I don't have Garmin G1000 experience. What can I do?
Our club offers in-house instructors who can conduct Garmin G1000 ground training sessions. Additionally, we provide useful training resources and videos available on our Aircraft Manuals page.
Can I use club aircraft for flight training?
Yes, we absolutely encourage flight training (exlcuding ab initio). Our in-house instructors offer reduced rates for members and can assist with flight training, CPL, PPL and RPL flight reviews, as well as MPPC endorsements.
Does the club have in-house instructors?
Yes. We have a team of in-house instructors who offer reduced rates exclusively for members. They can assist with flight training, CPL, PPL and RPL flight reviews, as well as MPPC endorsements.
What if I don't meet the club’s minimum requirements?
Please contact our Club Secretary with your details and we’ll work with you on a pathway to membership.
